Sun: Neue SPARC Enterprise-Server mit UltraSPARC T2 Plus-Prozessor

Bis zu 128 virtuelle Server pro System

Wien (pts017/11.04.2008/12:15) Sun Microsystems erweitert seine SPARC Enterprise Server Produktlinie um zwei neue Systeme auf Basis des UltraSPARC T2 Plus Prozessors. Mit der dritten Generation der SPARC Enterprise CoolThreads Server, den SPARC Enterprise T5140 und T5240 Servern, bietet Sun Systeme, die unter Einsatz von Solaris 10 sehr hohe Skalierbarkeit mit geringem Energieverbrauch verbinden. Die Leistung pro Watt wird dabei um das 2,5-fache gesteigert. Der Platzbedarf sinkt um die Hälfte. Die Systeme garantieren zusätzlich maximale Performance und Verfügbarkeit für Web Scale, Java und Datenbank-Applikationen.

Die Neuvorstellungen sind die ersten Dual-Socket-Server mit dem UltraSPARC T2 Plus Prozessor, die sich durch bis zu 128 Threads pro Ein- oder Zwei-Rack-Einheiten auszeichnen. Durch die Realisierung von bis zu 128 virtuellen Servern pro System besteht die Möglichkeit, 5.120 isolierte Domains pro Rack zu betreiben. Die neuen SPARC Enterprise T5140 und T5240 Server stellen eine bis zu 32-fach höhere Rechendichte als vergleichbare Zwei- oder Vier-Socket x86-Systeme zur Verfügung.

Das Einsatzspektrum der neuen Server reicht vom Internetserver bis zur Bewältigung unternehmenskritischer Anwendungen im Kern des Rechenzentrums.

In knapp zweieinhalb Jahren hat Sun die Leistung seiner CoolThreads Systeme verfünffacht. Damit bieten die neuen Server höhere Skalierbarkeit bei geringerem Energiebedarf sowohl bei der Entwicklung von Web-2.0-Diensten als auch bei klassischen CRM- oder ERP-Anwendungen.

Seit ihrer Einführung 2005, erzielten die SPARC Enterprise CoolThreads Systeme über 50 Perfomance-Rekorde. Aktuelle Benchmarks zeigen, dass die neue Sun Server-Generation eine bis zu fünfmal höhere Leistung als Mitbewerbersysteme bei halber Größe und eine zweieinhalbmal bessere Performance pro Watt aufweist.
